I am less interested in the mechanics of how Totoro can open his mouth so wide and more curious as to where Mei keeps getting all of these increasingly larger toothbrushes from. We are talking Tokorozawa in 1958, here. Tokyo would probably be the closest place she could find anything like that and it is almost 5½ hours away, by foot. But perhaps I have already put way too much thought into this.
